The “Cross del Sud” (literally South Cross Country) is an event of cross country, women and men, that is included in the national calendar of the Italian Athletics Federation. It was introduced in the far 1982 and since 1991 it is open to foreign athletes as well. This event, generally, takes place between the second part of february and the first ten-days of march. Since 1986 it has been held at Lanciano (CH), though the first four editions were organized in Formia (first and second), Pastena and Termoli. All the editions has seen high level athletes, like the italian champions Maria Curatolo, Maria Guida, Anna Villani, Rosanna Munerotto, Agnese Possamai, Alba Milani, Nives Curti, Federica Dal Ri, Gennaro Di Napoli, Salavtore Antibo, Francesco Panetta, Angelo Carosi, Gabriele De Nard and Andrea Lalli, as well as a lot of foreigners like Eliud Bargetuny, Nyabuti Eljiah and Rita Jeptoo (Kenia), Zahra Quaziz (Marocco), Carla Saramento (Portugal), Violeta Szekely Beclea (Romania) and so on. During its thirty-year path, the “Cross del Sud” has had the chance to host the European Interclubs Cup (three times) and once the Italian Championship.
